Braces Treatment at Smile Store Cork
Braces are orthodontic appliances, designed to guide your teeth into proper alignment. Our Orthodontists here at Smile Store can fit you with the most appropriate brace type for you, your lifestyle and your dental concerns.
If your teeth are crooked, crowded or uneven in any way, the right type of brace will gradually bring them into place for a more even smile and correct bite.
What Type of Brace is right for me?
There are a number of different types of orthodontic appliances, but they can all be put into two categories: ‘fixed’, meaning they stay put once they are fitted, and ‘removable’ which means they can be taken out by the patient at certain times.
Your teeth did not become crooked overnight, so any orthodontic treatment needs time to work to gradually move your teeth into the right spot. That’s why your treatment is unique for you; completely personalised to your particular case.
Gradual alignment of teeth with braces
Braces are a ‘fixed’ orthodontic appliance, used when your orthodontist wants to be very precise in guiding your teeth into place over a period of time.
You can eat and drink with braces, but you have to maintain excellent dental hygiene to make sure your teeth are clean and the braces don’t collect food particles.
Thanks to advances in orthodontics over the years, there are many different types of braces available these days to suit every need, age and dental issue.

Invisalign falls into the ‘removable device’ category, and has become very well-known in recent years.
It’s more than a single device – the Invisalign system actually consists of a series of custom-made transparent plastic aligners, which slip over your teeth like a mouth guard.
They are removable, although you’re supposed to wear them for a fixed period of time each day but can pop them out for eating or brushing your teeth.
Depending on particular teeth and progress, the aligners are replaced every couple of weeks. They are almost invisible, which appeals to a lot of people, but are limited in the kind of realignment they provide. (read more about Invisalign Treatment at Smile Store here)
