Aesthetic Ceramic braces work along similar principles to traditional metal braces, but instead, use ceramic or other materials to make them less noticeable against the tooth.

Adults usually want a discreet, less conspicuous brace. Aesthetic braces use clear or tooth-coloured brackets, usually made from porcelain, and very thin wires. These are suitable for upper teeth but not for the lower. Some patients choose aesthetic braces for the upper teeth and lingual braces for the lower ones.

Another alternative is Invisalign which uses clear aligners that are virtually invisible.

The best way  to find out if ceramic or clear braces are right view is  to book an appointment with our orthodontist in Cork.

How do ceramic braces work?

The good news is that ceramic and clear braces work exactly the same as conventional fixed orthodontics, this means that your orthodontist can have full control over how the teeth move, whilst giving you the most aesthetic option.

Are ceramic braces better than metal?

It’s quite unusual that an orthodontist would say that one system of braces is better than another, rather one system may be more suitable for a patient than another. This suitability is often based on outcome, budget and lifestyle of the patient.

Clinically, ceramic braces offer the same outcome as a conventional metal braces. They are sometimes however more expensive but they do fitting with a busy person’s lifestyle being less noticeable than conventional metal braces.
