Periodontal disease requires proactive treatment to halt and stabilise the disease.
As periodontal disease is caused by the reaction to bacteria that build up in the mouth; then make their way to the root and bone around the teeth, the trick is to eliminate as much as possible with specialist treatment. After that, you must ensure regular hygiene sessions to keep the mouth as clean as possible.

Do I really need a Periodontist?

Yes. Periodontal gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss and requires specialist treatment. We cannot turn back the clock, but we can halt and manage periodontal disease.

You cannot have any treatment until the periodontal disease is addressed – there’s no point in working on teeth that are going to fall out, and dental implants cannot be placed in diseased gums.

How do I know if I have periodontal gum disease?

If you get regular cleaning, the hygienist will identify potential issues as she charts the depth of any pockets around the teeth.
If you haven’t been to a dentist for a while, and come in for a consultation, our dentists can identify periodontal disease. Depending on the case, they may refer you to our Periodontist for Periodontal Assessment and Treatment Planning or schedule you in for the Periodontal Package directly.
